Autumn Anticipation — A Day-to-Night Look…

A few days ago, I received an email… from a regular reader, or just a passing visitor, I honestly don’t know.  However, it’s seldom I get asked a question, and am pleased as punch when someone does!

She wanted suggestions for a ‘day to night’ look for the early autumn season, and the added challenge was that she did not want to rely on black at all.  We both agreed it seemed too predictable, and too heavy!  I am not a style expert, but I promised her I’d do my best.

I clicked over to Matches Fashion for some ideas… Matches boasts an impressive collection of designers from all over the world, and I do like an ‘international wardrobe’!

Here’s what I came up with… let me know what you think makes the perfect day-to-night look!

Day to Night...
I wanted to keep the look simple, and put more focus on the fit and details.  I’m not sure if this is a fashion faux-pas, but I really like using a belt that is similar in hue to the dress/main outfit sometimes.  I feel it adds definition to the waist, without necessarily drawing attention away from the dress and to itself.  And the only thing that is switched up to achieve the night look, are the shoes!  I thought these golden ankle booties complemented the rest of the pieces, yet had that sparkle and ‘kick’ that made the whole look a bit more carefree and playful.

Diane Von Furstenberg Zarita dress

MAXMARA Gatti coat (it has soft cashmere in it!)

MAXMARA colour-pop waist belt

Christian Louboutin Filo 120mm patent pumps

Christian Louboutin Rock and Gold ankle boots

YSL Muse bowler bag

Well dear readers, what do you think?  I am not too good with ‘edging’ things up, so what would you suggest for an edgier yet still appropriate all day look?

Thank you, P, for writing in!
