Beautiful Things: Flaska Laverne, “Serenity”…

I’ve always had a soft spot for Spain.  Both my grandmothers had some Spanish roots, and be I ever mostly Asian now, it’s still a part of me, no matter how tiny.  Thus, I’m always exploring the labels and fashion houses in Spain, and I will admit to being an avid ‘royal-watcher’ of Princess Letizia.  I also have this grand notion/goal that my wardrobe will have pieces from all over the world!  (It’s a work in progress…)

When I stumbled across Flaska Laverne earlier this year, I was smitten.  Like a kitten.  It’s not often that I fall in love with an entire collection, but as was the case with Ana Rodenas Villena’s line of luxurious handbags, I did.

Is there a meaning behind the name Flaska Laverne?  There is… although it doesn’t mean anything when translated in Spanish.  It is a created pseudonym of sorts, and could be the name of “a romantic, dreamy, whimsical, independent, unique woman with great personality”… which is exactly the kind of woman Ana creates handbags for.  She also signs her creations under a pseudonym because in person, she is modest and can be shy –something I can identify with at times.
I couldn’t ask for a brand more in line with my ideals… The FL style is defined as ‘romantic-chic’, and aims to recreate a poetic and magical atmosphere.  The bags… are meant to keep beautiful secrets.  Dedication to perfection is one of the brand’s trademarks as well, and all handbags are carefully and lovingly handcrafted in Andalusia, Spain, with the goal of continuing Spanish craftsmanship while respecting human rights and the environment.

In my opinion, Flaska Laverne handbags are never overdone, but they are certainly not lacking in the special little details.  My theory of a well-designed bag is this:  You should be just as excited to open the purse and see what is inside as you are looking at its exterior.  Ana’s designs are a masterful blend of soft leathers, differing textures, alluring colours, and creative compositions that nothing about them is ever boring!

Ana kindly shared with me her new collection for Fall/Winter 2012, “Serenity”, and it’s definitely a joy to see both the campaign images and the new designs –you instantly notice all the care and thought that was put into it.  I was swept away by the soft, feminine mood of it all… and I’m sure you will be, too.

Of course, nothing could be more romantic than Books, and the ‘Bookia‘ clutch is one of my personal favourites.  Charming, whimsical, and with roomy enough to fit all your essentials in.  And I especially admire the stitching and complementary colours detailing on the spine.  You can’t help but look smart carrying this around!

For some reason, this collection reminds me of crushed rose petals, secret diaries (this may be a bit more obvious with the Bookia!), travel bags, and trips to the art gallery…

Another favourite of mine is the ‘Aladino‘… inspired by Arabian Nights and the free-spirited Bohemians, it evokes the spirit but avoids going into costume territory.  The clutch makes an impact by its bold, rich colour and by the tassel hanging from the point of the flap, which is very much reminiscent of the corner of a magic carpet!

This collection was inspired by the forests of Ordesa during autumn.  Exciting and riveting, this valley is rich and vibrant in colours throughout the season.  “Serenity” harmoniously depicts the cycle of autumn in its different stages as the valley experiences it.

Is not this wallet the epitome of gorgeousness?  In that perfect dusky colour, perfect for the autumn season, and for romantics all year round, the ‘Laura‘ will probably be the most practical and beautiful wallet you will ever own.  It also comes with a strap so you can convert it into a clutch.  I think that butterfly knows a pretty when it sees one… look how it’s trying to make off with the corner!
‘Laura’ also comes as a true clutch… very Mad Men-esque with vintage flair and appeal!

Every bag in this collection is truly gorgeous… so I hope you will take the time and visit Flaska Laverne to find your own favourites, or fall in love with everything yourself.  Of course, take a look at all the campaign images!  If you’re a lover of soft lighting, and feminine aesthetics, it will be a visual treat.

I hope that sometime soon, I’ll be able to own one or two of these lovelies!  There’s still time to wish, because tomorrow is my birthday!
