Family Day at 19 Wing & a Helicopter Ride…

Last night when my man came home from work and announced that he would take me to his squadron’s Family Day and that I would get to ride in a helicopter, I did what any easily excitable (and may I stress normal) girl would do.  I squealed with excitement and then proceeded to be unable to fall asleep due to the thrill of anticipation.  I relished every moment today –it was like a limited, insider’s peek into a normal workday in the life of my cutie!  Plus, now I can state that I’ve flown in a military vehicle… so much more daring than WestJet or Air Canada, shall we say?  P.S. They do not hand out any snacks –although there was a barbecue going on in one of the hangars! 😛

My Mister looking all dashing as we go around exploring 442 Squadron. ♥♥

We also explored the administrative side of the squadron.  To a ‘civvy’ like myself, it felt like a labyrinth, with many stairways and glass windows with 3rd floor views of the hangars down below — a building perfect for getting lost in.  He knew his way around of course, so I was unable to use my French, “Nous somme perdus!” (We are lost!) lol  My beau even showed me his office, and I had a laugh at the many ‘Helicopter pilots are Different‘ decals that were on doors and windows.

In one of those long, long hallways, there is a framed picture of him and his team on display, alongside a hundred or more pictures of other Flight Engineers.

Me:  “Is that picture going to stay on that wall for something like eternity?

Him: “Mmhmm!”

Me: Wow. !!

Flying over the beautiful landscape of Comox in the Cormorant

The pilot opened the ramp/cargo door mid-flight, and we all got an exhilarating view of the sea, as well as a refreshing breeze… the best part of the flight.

I enjoyed the morning tremendously, and I am also very, very proud of my man.  Big hugs to him for being so sweet and taking me to work on his weekend, as well as sharing with me an amazing experience.  This is what a special Saturday date is like when you’re with someone in the Canadian Forces! 🙂

Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend! ♥

ooo that sounds like so much fun Cathie. Beautiful photos. 🙂 I have always wanted to go in a helicopter. Is your man in the Airforce? My brother is in the Navy and nearly every family day they offer helicopter rides but my brother always seems to make sure that he is busy that day!! 🙁

It was *the best* Saturday! 🙂 I hope you get to ride in a helicopter, because there’s nothing like it! Yes, my man is in the Air Force… and that’s amazing that your brother is in the Navy! Can you go even if your brother is busy? I hope he will have time for Family Day some year… it is such a fun way to share what he does!

Sadly we aren’t even allowed on the base if he isn’t there, and when we are in the base we have to be escorted everywhere by him!!!! Hopefully I will be able to go the one next year.

Wow – what an exciting day & opportunity!! Lucky girl! The photos are beautiful, I’ve never been in a helicopter, I’d love to sometime – it sounds like it would be romantic with a special someone. I so want to see more photos of you and your man – you guys sound like such a cute couple!

ps: I loved that question you asked him about the photo, haha – that’s so neat! (:
