October Fun…

Goodness, October is always such a busy month!

There’s Thanksgiving, Hallowe’en, my birthday (and two of my family members’ birthdays!), as well as being in the swing of French classes.

There is so much fun and exciting energy that, coupled with the absolute beauty of autumn, there is no surprise that October is my favourite month.

Let’s start with my favourite picture –the pie I made for Thanksgiving!  It is Jane Austen themed, with Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett cut out of the crust.  I am quite proud of my ‘skills’ in making this!

If you would like these Austen themed cookie cutters, I got mine from the Jane Austen Centre’s gift shop here and here.  I could browse the lovelies there all day!

I always love dressing up for my birthday weekend even if nothing grand is planned, and when it is to work, a less frilly outfit must be worn of course!  I still have fun through the details –combining my love for a sleek fit-and-flare silhouette with sheer tights, polka-dots and bows.  I hereby present to you my ‘practical’ birthday outfit: Cathie 27 Birthday

Jacket:  Danier ‘Bree’ lamb leather jacket in Port (2014)

Top:  Kate Spade ‘abree’ cashmere sweater in black (2014)

We went for sushi for my birthday lunch at 168 Sushi Buffet.  It isn’t our top favourite place to go for sushi in Ottawa, but it is a convenient location, and when the staff is not too busy, the food is fresh and very tasty.  If you catch them on a busy afternoon though, prepare to have missing items from your order and/or the food to not be up to its usual standards.  Following-up usually leads to them bringing the order in, so if you are not in a hurry, it isn’t ideal but not truly awful either –especially if you pay the all-you-can-eat price.  We sometimes simply re-order what was missing.

My 26th Birthday Outfit [Plus Review of Taron’s Threads by Lularoe]…

It’s been a lovely, quiet birthday so far.  The quietest birthday I’ve ever had, actually… not what I had hoped for at all, but there are still little things to enjoy and appreciate.  I’m grateful for all the family and friends who have sent their warm wishes my way.

Cathie Maud - Taron's Threads - Lularoe - Nicole dress
Jacket:  Danier ‘Bree’ lamb leather jacket in Port (2014)

Jewellery:  Pandora charm bracelet –birthday gift from husband (2014)

Dress:  Lularoe ‘Nicole’ dress (from Taron’s Threads) (2014)

Scarf:  Irelandseye scarf from Celtic Traditions (2013)

Tights:  Club Monaco lace tights (2014)

Booties: DUO ‘Tova’ shoe boot with mid-heel, collar and bow in Navy (2014)

Every year, I treat myself to footwear from DUO.  Since I discovered them in 2011, they have been my go-to for stylish, comfortable boots for the autumn and winter seasons.  This is my third pair, and while I dislike playing favourites with my wardrobe, let’s just say that I’ve been reaching for these quite often.  🙂

My Pandora Charm Bracelet

Though nothing will ever replace my beloved Mackage ‘Leane’ leather jacket, I did fall quite hard for this elegant, sleek number from Danier a few weeks ago.  Huge thank you to my lovely dad and mum in-laws, who decided to surprise me with it as a birthday present!  ♥♥

Cathie Maud - Taron's Threads - LularoeThis Lularoe dress that I got from my friend Taron (check out her page here) feels like liquid silk!  It’s a polyester/spandex blend and my longtime readers know I NEVER wear polyester.  But for this dress, I shall make an exception.  It’s cute, comfy, easy to wear and care for… I can definitely see myself bringing this dress along when I do the Chemin de Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle trail in a few years.  For now, I am content to wear it here in chilly Ottawa, while twirling around where no one can see me.  😉

23rd Birthday, Remembrance Day & All Hallows’ Eve…

“Success is like reaching an important birthday and finding you’re exactly the same.” — Audrey Hepburn

I may not consider myself successful yet, but I felt the truth of this quote.  I approached my birthday this past Tuesday with a muddled mixture of excitement and trepidation –the expectations of growing older as well as growing old scares me.  I want to grow old gracefully, but most of me feels like I’ll never be ready, or at least not ready yet.  Thankfully I reached my birthday, and found I am (for the moment) still ‘exactly the same’… and I still managed to squeal over cake and presents. 🙂  I have also made a few resolutions… such as being a happier girl, focusing on the positive, sweet side of life… and just in general smiling.

Now on to a peek at the past few days!

Cathie as Alice“If I’m honest I have to tell you I still read fairy-tales and I like them best of all.” –Audrey Hepburn

Alice in the Garden

You knew I would be Alice in Wonderland for Hallowe’en, didn’t you?  We have an abundance of bunnies here, too… but they were all hiding when these pictures were taken. *sadness*  I must say, I love wearing long dresses… they make me feel so different in a special way.  I wish I could wear one every day without having eyebrows lifted loftily at me. So you see, even though I don’t celebrate Hallowe’en… the fact that I can dress up and eat lots of candy without being judged makes me love this ‘holiday’. 😀

Blue AliceI decided to make my ‘own’ Alice look because I wanted to be more unique and imaginative.  It’s frosty out! — so I put on my Soïa & Kyo ‘Anissa-Z’ coat, hoping it looked Victorian enough.  Being petite, the dress was sweeping the floor so I donned my Elie Tahari ‘Vivianna’ pumps  to give me a bit of height.  I swapped the curls for a crystal wing hairclip by Jennifer Behr, and since I wasn’t too fond of the striped fingerless gloves Alice sports in the movie, I wore a watch instead… it is inspired by the hare after all. 🙂  I also put on my Loveheart Provence Lavender Small Pendant by Swarovski –I thought it was a fun reference to the zany Red Queen and her hearts.

Ice-Blue AliceLast, but not least…

It is the week leading up to Remembrance Day.  I always try to do something to help the veterans, and to remember those lost to us in the fight for peace and freedom.  I fondly remember helping the Legion hand out poppies at Richmond Centre in 2007.  In 2008 I attended a parade and in 2009, took part in a service with my beau.  This year, despite the sad reason for returning to Vancouver, I hope to be able to have time to participate in another parade.
